I was invited to do a shoot with Mike Figgis as part of a series of Global exhibitions showcasing the director's vision of Hong Kong's own Soho.
'Back in 2008, Mike Figgis, best known for his work on
Internal Affairs starring Richard Gere and the Oscar-nominated
Leaving Las Vegas starring Nicolas Cage, was commissioned to document the vibrancy of London’s SoHo people, places and atmosphere, all to raise funds for The Photographer’s Gallery. This spawned the SoHo composites concept. Its second instalment, SoHo Composites # 2 - New York, saw him partner up with Prada and Milk Gallery.
Now Figgis is in town to present
SoHo Composites # 3 - Hong Kong, which captures the essence of Hong Kong’s own SoHo. Championing the individual style of Hong Kong, Figgis also photographed some of the city's most unique, artistic and stylish personalities, all in support of The Photographer’s Gallery and the Hong Kong Fashion Designers Association.
Figgis started photographing the series in Hong Kong on October 14, and each day since, the photographs were added to the installation at the Joyce boutique in Central. The photographs were also produced and printed on site.
Tomorrow, October 22, an exclusive in-store event will be held to showcase the exhibition in its final stages. There will be a personal attendance by Figgis, along with some of Hong Kong’s VIPs, celebrities and socialites. International pianist Rosey Chan will also perform and guests will be able to bid on the images during a silent auction. The exhibition ends on October 26.'
